Videos: Overview

Videos can be used in many places in OpenOlat – as a standalone learning resource, embedded in courses, or as part of assignments, tests, and portfolios. This page provides a brief overview of the possibilities for creating, integrating, and using videos in OpenOlat in a didactically meaningful way. Details can be found on other pages.

Fundamentals

OpenOlat distinguishes between the independent use of videos and the integration of videos into other contexts.

The central element for providing videos is the learning resource Video. In addition, videos can be used in many other tools and learning resources.

Create, publish, and embed videos

Videos in OpenOlat can be embedded in several different ways:

  • Upload of a video file (e.g. MP4)
  • Direct recording via webcam or mobile device within OpenOlat
  • Linking external videos via a link (e.g. YouTube)
  • Integration of internal videos from your own Media Center

Depending on the tool, videos are displayed directly or provided as clickable elements.
